How to Make a Fan

By: Angie Woodley

A guide to making a fan. Depending on how fancy you want your fan to be will determine how many steps it will take. I am going to show you how to make a Fourth of July fan.

Needed supplies:

  1. A piece of white construction paper.
  2. A star stencil or star cut out.
  3. One blue marker.
  4. One red marker.
  5. Stapler with staples.
  6. Ruler.
  7. Stapler

Once you have the necessary supplies you are ready to get started. First you need to take your construction paper and your pencil and draw a square on the upper left-hand corner. Then you need to measure and draw thirteen equal stripes to the right of and below the square. Then you can either trace or stencil in 50 stars with your star pattern or stencil into the square. Now you need your blue marker. With your blue marker you need to color in the square leaving the star pattern white. Then with your red marker you need to color every other stripe red starting with red first. When you are finished coloring the red stripes, you may need to erase the light pencil marks if they show through. Next, you will turn the paper over and color a flag on the otherside as well. Now you are ready to make your flag into a fan. With your paper lengthwise on the table fold your construction paper 1 inch then flip the paper over and fold it back over 1 inch. Continue doing this until you are at the end of the paper. Turn the paper without unfolding it, so that the blue stars are on the top. Fold the bottom of the paper 1/2in. and staple on the fold. Unfold the paper without tearing the stapled end, and you will have a beautiful 4th of July flag fan to keep yourself cool during the fire works.
