Family Literacy services provide adult education, early childhood education, parent education, and parent/child literacy interaction.  The goals of the program for adults are to make reading gains in English and reach individual goals in regard to education, employment, and employability.  The primary goal for children is to demonstrate learning gains in language and literacy skills.  Family goals include transitioning onto additional needed services, demonstrating parent/child interactive skills, and reaching individual family goals. (Family Class is a collaborative program between Community Unit School District NO. 5, Sterling Public Library and Whiteside Regional Office of Education.) SERVICES: Family Class (8:30 AM – 11:00 AM; Monday – Thursday) English as a Second Language Class for adults Play and Learn Class for children Parent Education Parent/child literacy interaction Weekly visits to Sterling Public Library Weekly visits to Parents As Teachers Library Supporting Home Visits Individualized Family Action Plans ELIGIBILITY: Parent and child must attend program together.
