The Manual
The manual is provided as a guide to assist teachers in the development of a series of activities that will help parents become better acquainted with the educational process of their children. All children need help from their parents to succeed in school. As teachers, we have a responsibility to make sure that parents are given the opportunity to be a part of their children's education. What better way than to meet with those parents on a one-on-one basis to teach parents about their school, about how their teacher teaches, and about how they can help teach their children. Let us take the first step in getting parents "in sync" with what the school is trying to accomplish.
The development of the manual was a collaborative effort of classroom teachers and professional consultants. The manual is divided into seven parts. Program Background, Program Information, Session Materials, Program Evaluation, Program Findings, ERIC - Search, and a Bibliography. Each session has an agenda, which includes a set of goals, objectives, activities, and handouts. The activities are written for the development of reading, math, motor, social, and parenting skills. Handout materials have been developed to correspond to many of the activities. The activities have been piloted and are currently being used. One must realize these activities are just samples. You may want to develop your own sessions, activities, and handouts as you see fit.
