The primary function of the Literacy Leadership Coordination
Project is the coordination of family literacy programming in Whiteside County
through the Whiteside Regional Office of Education. Coordination activities
include case management services, planning activities for joint programming with
collaborating partners, coordinating services to provide all components of
family literacy for each enrolled family, arranging and monitoring daily
transportation and collaborating with partners for program development.
This grant provides supporting funds for Clase Familiar/Family
Class and the Learning Together Family Literacy Program.
Clase Familiar/Family Class is for parents who want to learn English
and their young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Parents work on
English, children ages 6 weeks - 3 are in Play and Learn Class and children 3-5
are in Head Start or Early Bird Pre-Kindergarten Program. Special Parent and
Child Story Times are on Fridays.
Learning Together Class is for parents who want to get a GED and
their young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Parents work on GED preparation,
children ages 6 weeks - 3 are in Play and Learn Class and children 3-5 are in
Head Start Class. Special Parent Child Story Times will be on Fridays.
