Whiteside Regional Office of Education and Head Start work together as partners
to provide two Even Start Family Literacy Programs - "Clase Familiar/Family
Class" and "Learning Together Class." Family Literacy is an
integrated, intensive program for at-risk families that include adult basic
education, child education, parenting education and parent/child literacy
interaction.
Clase Familiar/Family Class is for parents who want to learn English
and their young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Parents work on
English, children ages 6 weeks - 3 are in Play and Learn Class and children 3-5
are in Head Start or Early Bird Pre-Kindergarten Program. Special Parent and
Child Story Times are on Fridays.
Learning Together Class is for parents who want to get a GED and
their young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Parents work on GED preparation,
children ages 6 weeks - 3 are in Play and Learn Class and children 3-5 are in
Head Start Class. Special Parent Child Story Times will be on Fridays.

Eligibility
- Parent and child must participate together.
- Parent must qualify for Adult Basic Education.
- Child must be between the ages of six weeks and five years.
- Family must reside in Whiteside County.
- Family must attend regularly.

Transportation is provided.
Federal Even Start Family Literacy funds contribute $150,000
to the Family Literacy Programs offered through Whiteside County Regional Office
of Education in collaboration with Head Start through Tri-County Opportunities
