The Whiteside County Early Childhood Parenting Project in its 14th full year was funded at a level of $72,040.00. The project is part of a statewide effort to help parents develop the skill and confidence they need to encourage and foster their children's healthy development, thereby enhancing their children's ability to function well on school entry. The WCECPP (PAT) is a home-based program which provides developmental information and support to families with children
birth through age 5 or kindergarten entry. It is based on the knowledge that the first three years of a child's life are a critical time in development of communication, social, emotional, motor, and cognitive skills. Parents who understand each stage of their child's development and offer materials and experiences that are appropriate at each stage will be giving their child the best possible start in life. The project employs parent educators who are specially trained
in child development. The parent educators meet with families, offering guidance intended to minimize the stresses and maximize the pleasures of parenting.
