The Secretary of State Family Literacy Grant provides supporting
funds for Class Familiar/Family Class. Whiteside Regional Office of
Education, Head Start, Early Bird Pre-Kindergarten Program and Sterling Public
Library are partners on this project.
Clase Familiar/Family Class is for parents who want to learn English
and their young children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Parents work on
English, children ages 6 weeks - 3 are in Play and Learn Class and children 3-5
are in Head Start or Early Bird Pre-Kindergarten Program. Special Parent and
Child Story Times are on Fridays.

- Weekly trips to Sterling Public Library
- Community linkages and referrals
Eligibility
- Parent and child must participate together.
- Parent must qualify for Adult Basic Education.
- Child must be between the ages of six weeks and five years.
- Family must reside in Whiteside County.
- Family must attend regularly.
