Resource counselors are available to answer requests for information. Callers may be referred to the National Aids Hotline: 1-800-342-AIDS. Spanish-speaking callers will have Spanish-speaking assistance from the National Aids Hotline.


ALCOHOLISM & DRUG DEPENDENCE ASSOCIATION, ILLINOIS (IADDA)

Association for the purpose of prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. Education, prevention services, training, development and support, and community assistance are provided.


CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT

24-hour answering service 1-800-252-2873

Social workers take reports of neglect or abuse of children under the age of 18 by a parent or caretaker only. If criteria is met, the Department of Children & Family Services field office is notified and undertakes an investigation to assistthe family in the situation.


CHILD SUPPORT ASSISTANCE 1-800-447-4278

The Illinois Department of Human Services provides services to assist a parent having difficulty collecting child support payments. Help is available to individuals who receive public aid and to those who do not.


DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS: VETERANS' ASSISTANCE

8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday - Friday 1-800-827-1000 Nationwide

Provides information to veterans and their dependents about a range of benefits including GI loans, education, insurance, disability compensation, medical care, and dental treatment.


LEGAL SERVICES, PRAIRIE STATE

8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday 1-800-322-9804

Although no legal advice can be given, this number will answer questions about procedures and eligibility for obtaining services from Prairie State Legal offices.

NATIONAL RUNAWAY SWITCH/ADOLESCENT SUICIDE HOTLINE

24-hour answering service (I-SWITCH) 1-800-621-4000

This answering service provides a means to convey messages between runaways and their families. Trained volunteers offer crisis intervention and referral, as needed. Needs of the runaway are provided for as needed: housing, food, medical help, transportation, or other. They will also deliver messages from the runaway to his/her family, if requested. The service protects the confidentiality of the runaway.


POISON CONTROL CENTER, REGIONAL

This is an emergency number to secure information about cases of actual or suspected poisoning or ingestion.


PREVENTION RESOURCE CENTER

8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday 1-800-252-8951

This resource-sharing Springfield office lends materials regarding prevention program development and management. Their specialized collection currently covers a broad range of special populations including children of alcoholics, parents and family, youth, women, elderly, and multicultural. These resources provide the support needed to develop knowledge and skills in those areas.

Services provided: lending library, periodicals review, bibliographies, film lending, matching service, reference, literature searches, film location, and inter-library loan.


WELFARE FRAUD HOTLINE

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday 1-800-252-8903

This number exists to report fraud by anyone receiving assistance through any Illinois Department of Human Services program.
